Team News for North Shore (Home).
Posted Friday 10th October. .
Team Report: After the first named storm of the year ‘Amy’ who could of predicted the great weather for our penultimate match of the season. North Shore lead by their Team Captain Kevin Bridgewater turned up and with the support of a couple of high handicappers made for a competitive days golf.
Myself and Phil Morris lead the way, 2 down after 2 didn’t luck promising but our superiority (luck) came through in the end. 3 up with 3 to play, 2 up with 2, Phil’s half on the last made it 1-0 and saved the day ⛳️. Before I get to the final result I must thank Julian Worsdale for his part in the days match, Tony Fell had forgotten his shoes and Julian had a spare pair, this meant Tony and partner Colin Taylor could still play and they did 4-3 win. Due to Julian’s part in this win I can only put his match result 2-1 loss down to his playing partner and 3 TIME CLUB CHAMPION Alan Pretty🤣
Taking into account the high indexes (in the 30’s) of 3 of the Skeggy boys I think the final DRAW result was well earned. The best example of this would be Steve Wells and Richard Johnson, giving 22 shots they still achieved a 2-1 Win👏
Thanks again to Dave, Hayley for all they do to make these home games possible, also well done to the ground staff for ensuring the course in general was well prepared and all greens and bunkers were kept in play. Also with positive feedback from both teams, and without being to repetitive, thanks must once again go to Bowser’s for the post match meal of pork roast which always seems to satisfy.
As always personal thanks to all our senior members that show support and make these team games possible.

Team News for Carholme (Home)
Posted 21st September.
Team Report: Sometimes it’s all about the weather and that’s how this day started. In torrential rain and being the first home player to arrive I crossed the car park and entered the club house to be met by the Carholme team lead by Richard Horsted. Richard had 2 questions the first being have we got the right day and if yes would the course be playable. My reply to the 1st was yes, and this was confirmed when the rest of our team eventually turned up🤣, have to admit for a short time I was questioning myself😅. With greens being partly flooded the 2nd question was discussed by both teams for quite awhile, one and all seemed to be comparing weather apps which predicted rain for the rest of the day. Dave Otterwell then put the BBC weather up on the TV which seemed to contradict all apps by showing improved conditions as the day went on. The decision was made to delay the start by 30 minutes and keep our🤞for the rest of the day. I thank Dave now for turning on the TV and then thank the BBC for a making a correct forecast, from this the the course maintenance team made the course playable on temporary greens which as the weather improved they managed to transfer back to main. At 8:00am no one would have predicted the great day of golf that followed🏌️♂️⛳️
On this occasion I’m not going to highlight any pairings that may have contributed to what I believe was the correct result on the day, a 4 to 4 draw given the early weather conditions seemed fair. What I will do is highlight one individual performance, ALAN PRETTY, just in case you haven’t heard 3 TIME (in a row) CLUB CHAMPION, the one person who owns a trumpet 🎺 and knows how to blow it. Yes defector Sam Mitha may have birdied the 15th to take the win for Carholme in that group, but I ask, playing against our 3 TIME CLUB CHAMPION should he of had that opportunity on the last hole? Did it cost us the team win? Should you be able to rely on you 3 TIME CLUB CHAMPION? You can all make your own call on these three topics🤣
Thanks must go to Dave, Hayley and the ground staff for their patience and support under difficult circumstances caused by the weather on arrival, and how the course was made playable and managed throughout the day. Feedback from the Carholme team and supported by all reflected this in a positive way.
Lastly thanks once again to Bowser’s for the post match meal, pork roast always seems to satisfy after an enjoyable round of golf 🏌️♂️⛳️
A personal thanks to all our senior members that show support and make these team games possible. WMSS Captain Colin Bilboa.

Match No 14. Wednesday 22nd October.
Team News for Normanby Park (Away).
Posted 22nd October
Team Report: ROAD AHEAD CLOSED! ACCESS ONLY!
What a start to the day “ACCESS ONLY”!! To where? Not to Normanby that was for sure. Even the catering staff got caught out and like us all were late. This meant no coffee before teeing off 🙁
Steve Wells and I lead the way, I say lead the way 6 down after 8 didn’t look promising, if only we’d had a coffee. We expected the worst, then something clicked and the fight back began, reducing their lead to just 1 after 13. We were pleased with our recovery but on the day, it wasn’t to be with Normanby Captain Paul Lyon and playing partner Bill Lowrie taking 15 & 16 to take the game 3 -2.
The team result was to follow the same path, 5 down after 5. One big thank you to our last 3 pairs, Alan Phillipson & Colin Taylor - Win, Nigel Cooke & Michael Flower - Win, Les Ramsey & Mick Clark - Half, you saved the day from complete disaster.
Final Result 5. 1/2 to 2. 1/2 (If only we’d had coffee)
Thanks to Normanby Captain Paul Lyon and the rest of his team for a great day's golf followed by tasty food and banter. Paul apologised on numerous occasions about the diverted traffic, no coffee at start, not being able to play on 2 tees, new bunkers being prepared and the long grass on fairways. My reply was that no apology was needed, some things are out of our control and for a municipal course Normanby is being developed in a positive way and is well kept and managed.
Thanks to all for taking part it my last team match as WMSS Captain, just take into consideration that if COFFEE had been available at the start the result may have been different 🤣
Fresh air, exercise, social interaction and golf is what makes WMSS, the order of priority is up to each individual. 🏌⛳️
PS. Question: In my report did I mention coffee more than Alan Pretty would mention being club champion 3 times in a single round of golf?
