Team Report: I understand how difficult and draining it is for some playing consecutive days, especially in these warm humid conditions, so one big THANK YOU to all that turned out for our 7th game of the season against Messingham Grange.
Myself and Jeff Barlow took the reigns against their stand in Captain Stan Case and Stewart Galland, it turned out to be a one horse race in favour of Welton Manor, 4 up after 4, who could ask for a better start? The game finished 7 & 5 and many of the Welton horses followed suit bringing the final tally to a 6 -2 win to the home team. Yes, winning is everything, unless you lose🤣, but as always great company which Messingham bought to the table made for an equally great day for all that took part.
Many thanks again to Dave and Hayley for the preparation and welcome given to Messingham. As before this thanks should also be passed to the ground staff for maintaining the course and Bowsers for the meal that followed, it’s never to hot for a pork roast and only positive comments were made on all fronts.
With 7 matches played we are now halfway through the season, 3 wins, 1 half and 3 losses, some may say we’re on Par🏌️♂️⛳️, as Captain I’ll take that😁

Match No 6. Thursday 28th June.
Posted 27th June.
Team Report: Once again May I start by thanking all that took part in our 6th game of the season against Tetney. Like our previous matches the weather held, although a little blustery it still made for challenging but great day of golf against a bunch of likeminded seniors.
Tony Crook and I took the reins against Tetney Captain Andy Jakes and their Nev (bandit) Shepherd in what turned out to be a very close-knit match. Great company with good banter from 1 to 18, this made for what I believe was a well-earned/deserved half for both teams. The following matches were all decided on the 17th/18th hole played, this not only showed how close the games were but also made the 4.1/2 - 2.1/2 defeat more bearable (to some).
May I end my report by thanking both Dave and Hayley for the preparation and welcome given to Tetney and all visiting teams. These thanks should also be passed to the ground staff for maintaining the course in these unusually dry conditions, compliments have been made. Also, thanks go to Bowser’s for the return of the Pork Roast, it’s been missed by both home and away teams.
Thanks again to everyone showing and giving support.

Team News for Tetney(Away).

Team Report: May I start by saying thank you to all that put their names down for this match against Tetney, as I said after our last match, it can be difficult and draining playing consecutive days. I was going to start by saying thank you for turning up, but including myself we didn’t actually do that 🤣
On this occasion myself and Vice Captain Simon started the ball rolling, I should say Simon alone took control, as I played the first drive of the day off the first tee which lead to me/us not being able to find my ball. This left Simon to finish the hole alone which he did in stile, 1 up, couldn’t ask for a better start, then we went on to half the second. Then our feet fell off, if we’d been in buggy’s I’d have said wheels, this was the last and only time we lead the match. 6 down at the turn which lead to a us shaking hands at the 13th. The game finished 7 & 5 loss and many of the Welton horses followed suit bringing the final tally to a 7-1 win to the home team. One big thank you must go to Neil Campbell and Richard Johnson for our only win of the day 3 & 2 which saved the whitewash. Tongue in cheek I would also like to thank Garry Gilberthorpe and Colin Taylor, 8 & 6 loss, this made myself and Simon feel a little better about our 7 & 5 loss😜, WINNING is everything, unless you lose🤣.
Tetney Captain Andy Jake’s and the rest of the guys made what started as a wet rainy day worthwhile, from the warm welcome through to the post match meal, the company alone on a well kept course made for a great day of golf⛳️🏌️♂️
Thanks again, WMSS Captain Colin Bilboa.
