Match No 5. North Shore Away.

Report: First May I thank all that made the trek to North Shore for our 5th game of the season. Like our last match against Woodthorpe the weather didn’t seem too promising, starting with light showers followed by 10 minutes of heavy rain it seemed the day wasn’t going in the favour of golf. Then things changed dramatically, blue sky, sunny intervals and a slight increase in temperature made for a great day. Righteous we must be 😎🌞
The sign of a good well maintained course is in the playing, I didn’t hear one negative comments from either team, and the rain made little difference to the run of the ball on fairways or greens.
Myself and Paul Wells took the reins but soon dropped them, it wasn’t going to be our day, 2 down after 9 which lead to a 5 - 3 defeat. I’ll take full responsibility for the final team result, 4. 1/2 to 2. 1/2 Loss it was. As Captain you should show confidence and lead by example, therefore please note for future games, THERE IS NO NEED TO FOLLOW MY EXAMPLE 🤣 Also note that it’s not just about the taking part, Winning IS everything 🤣
As written in my last report, playing golf with a bunch of like minded old guy’s at both home and away courses is what these friendly matches are all about. North Shore showed a great example, a warm welcome, great company, good food, banter and golf, who could ask for more.

Team Report:First home game as Captain and the weather was kind, that with clean clear fairways and fast running greens made for an enjoyable game for both home and away teams.
John Chapman (SNR) and myself started the ball rolling against Rob (Capt) Cleland and Dave Briggs an old Welton member. It was all square after 9, it was close from start to finish, therefore when John took the 17th to level the game again the offer to take half in advance of 18 was taken.
Normanby - Home 6.5 to 1.5 Win Carholme - Away 6 to 2 Win
I think the confident start to the team season may have gone to our heads, or maybe Laceby bought their A game, I’ll take the later as l know with 5 of our guy’s starting on scratch against 3 of theirs, it was always going to be difficult, bearing that in mind the 5 to 3 loss becomes more bearable.
Shout out to Julian and Tony with our only actual win 3 & 2, well done👏👏 (and you don’t need to remind us at future games).
One and all: remember these are friendly team matches, winning isn’t everything, it’s all in the taking part. Can’t believe I’m beginning to sound like a Junior School Teacher🤣Thanks again to everyone showing and giving support ⛳️🏌️♂️

Team Report: Couldn’t have predicted a better day for golf, after a rainy night and early morning showers the sun came out, this soon made for perfect playing conditions on a well-kept and maintained course.
Last minute substitute Mike Hook who and I, was playing of zero took the reins against Graham Rushby (Capt) and Frank Evans. Couldn’t off asked for a better start, 5 up after 9. I’ll take full responsibility for what happened next, I let my team mate down, we should have been 6 up after 10 but my concentrating lapsed, lesson learned, don’t play the opposition’s ball 🤣. Thank goodness it didn’t affect the outcome, 3 and 2 win it was🎉. Given some of the handicap differentials and 6 of ours starting from scratch against only 2 of theirs it was always going to be difficult, therefore the overall result being a draw away from home was a great result.
I hope you all agree, Woodthorpe showed what these friendly team matches are all about. Playing golf with a bunch of likeminded old guys at both home and away courses. A warm welcome, great company both on and off the course, good food and banter. This along with golf, who could ask for more?
